| Feb 07 - Multiple Sclerosis Stockport & District Branch receive surprise donation |
|
The Stockport branch of The MS Society had a very pleasant surprise when two representatives from Clarke Nicklin, an Independent local firm of Chartered Accountants came to present a cheque at their AGM on 17th February 2007.
Clarke Nicklin’s payroll manager Michelle Middlemas, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis six years ago, handed the cheque for £524.35 to newly appointed chairman David Williams.
David comments "I specifically asked not to be told the amount, and was delighted when it was announced. Although the MS Society is a national charity we are always extremely grateful when we receive donations to the local branch. It is used directly for those affected by Multiple Sclerosis in the Stockport area, supporting a range of services such as Hydrotherapy, Yoga, professional counselling and providing grants for equipment."
The money has been raised by Clarke Nicklin not sending out Christmas cards. Multiple Sclerosis is a charity they shall be supporting this year. The firm is organising a series of events to raise money and awareness for this cause. So far they have a receptionist in the Wilmslow half marathon and their Marketing Manager competing in the Nantwich triathlon.
Partner at Clarke Nicklin, Andrew Baggott said "We wanted to focus on supporting one particular charity this year and really wanted it to be local. It was Michelle who put us in touch with the MS Stockport & District branch. Obviously it is a charity very close to our hearts as Michelle has worked for us for the past two and a half years, she comes to work without any complaints and is always very high spirited. All of the money raised supports the local community which is of utmost important to us"
