New Chamber President for Stockport

chamber presidentBrian Bradley, of Clarke Nicklin Chartered Accountants, has been appointed as the new Stockport President of Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce.

Greater Manchester Chamber is the largest Chamber of Commerce in the UK with over 4,500 members, around 450 of which are Stockport based companies.

Brian, who is a partner at the accountancy practice, takes over from Sue Souter who stepped down as President at the Chamber’s Action for Business Event on 24 November.

Brian has spent the past two years working alongside Sue and Christian Mancier of Gorvins Solicitors, the previous President, as a closely knit team to promote the borough and its businesses.

Speaking of the new role Brian said; “I am honoured and excited to be taking on the role of Stockport President. It is a fantastic opportunity for me to champion the views of businesses in the borough and make a positive difference. Working alongside Sue for the past two years has been excellent in giving me a good grounding and allowing me to experience what the role of President is all about.”

Brian’s three main aims for his time at the helm cover skills, destination, and connectivity.

The recent launch of Gander, a programme which brings businesses and education together to build mutually beneficial relationships, is just one of the things which the Chamber is pioneering in order to address the skills gap. Brian, along with Christian, has been integral in setting up the programme and will continue to promote Gander, and ensure it is a sustainable success.

He is also passionate about promoting Stockport as a business hub, and a destination for businesses out of the area. Brian comments; “Developments such as Stockport Exchange are fantastic for the town, we need to make sure our business offering is represented all over the North West so we can attract new businesses to the area, and I want to ensure Stockport has a strong influence on the devolution agenda.”

Finally, Brian wants to use his role to encourage more businesses to connect and do business with each other. He adds; “Chamber members should be doing business with other Chamber members, if you have a need then I have no doubt there is a member business in the Stockport area that can fulfil it, this to me should be one of the core benefits of being a member of the Chamber.”

Brian’s new Vice President will be Tony Millar of Millar Landscapes; the pair have worked closely together for a number of years now and together make a passionate, hard-working and dedicated Stockport leadership team. They head up a diverse Stockport local chamber council board which includes representatives from many industries including engineering, manufacturing, property, legal, digital and creative. The Stockport chamber council representatives act as ambassadors for their industries and the next two years will see them come to fore, as the collective voice of business in Stockport.
